Laura L. Thatcher
I have been a member of the South Bay community for over 30 years. My law practice is an extension of my ties to the South Bay.
Education
I grew up in Rancho Palos Verdes and attended Chadwick School. Following high school I went to the University of California, Santa Barbara. I returned to the South Bay after college and went to Loyola Law School. At Loyola, I served as an Articles editor for the Entertainment Law Journal and also represented the Student Bar Association as Activities Chair. I received my law degree in 1997.
Career History
I began my career representing people in personal injury law suits including car accidents, slip and falls and construction site accidents. The next firms I worked were involved in construction defect litigation. There, I defended contractors and small general contractors in construction defect cases.
I have always helped my friends and neighbors with their legal needs. My services included
- writing prenuptial agreements
- preparing their estate plans including living trusts and wills
- forming corporations and LLCs
- child custody disputes.
Focusing my work on family issues was the driving force behind starting my own firm.

Providing legal help to my family, friends and neighbors has always been the most meaningful part of the work I do. So, together with Sarah Jane Robinson, I formed Robinson – Thatcher, LLP to continue representing my community.
The most important focus of my law firm is to help you resolve the issues which affect your family. I am here to help you fulfill your responsibilities to your children by creating responsible estate plans. I am also available in family law related issues: whether you need legal assistance in the creation of a new family by drafting or reviewing prenuptial agreements, helping you “reinvent” your family structure in a divorce divorce, or you need legal advice or representation in child custody disputes.
My Family
My husband and I live in Hollyglen with our two sons, Jamie and Will, who both attend Cabrillo Elementary School.
My hobbies include baking (especially birthday cakes), entertaining, reading, hiking with my family and playing with our family dog, Pepper.
Community Involvement
I am involved in the South Bay community. I am actively involved with Sandpipers, a local community service organization.
